This is quite the blog update.....lots of photos!

I am so overwhelmed with the kindness shown by so many people!
We had another very successful crochet/knit session at the Blueberry Inn on Tuesday-I really enjoy meeting these wonderful people who happily donate their time and skills for good causes.  A big thank you and welcome to Suzanne, Jen and Amanda who came along last time-and a big shout out to the wonderful regular ladies, Bonnie, Eirian, Harrie, Gaelle, Lisa, Claire, Elise and Jackie-I know some of you couldn't make it this time, we missed you!  Hopefully see you soon xx
(If I've missed any names on the list, I'm dreadfully sorry-I am terrible with names so please let me know so I can mend things)

We have quite the haul of squares!

(Bonnie seemed to be on fire making the purple squares...)

Great work everyone!

Jen also brought in a number of blankets that she has made that are absolutely wonderful

Thank you so much Jen and thank you for the lovely bag of yarn as well-very much appreciated!

Yesterday, I popped into town to see my good friend Kathy-a few years back, I'd made her this she is one of the kindest people I know-she is genuinely the sweetest lady around :-)  She has made four squares for the project as well!

AND when I got home, I found a parcel from Jayne over at the SIBOL ravelry group.  She's already donated a lot of squares to the project but has made even more with her friend Jill!

Thank you so much ladies, they are gorgeous!

And now for today's news...

A lady called Ana has sent in 4 squares AND two blankets-they are beautiful, thank you so much!

Thank you Ana, these are stunning.

Then I received this wonderful bundle of squares from Linda-she has been crocheting non stop it seems!

Thank you Linda!

Lastly, I was remiss in thanking a lady called Edwina for her donation of yarn a couple of weeks ago-I've only just found out her name!  She brought it along to one of the crochet-alongs but as she couldn't stay, I didn't get the chance to chat to her.  She donated a massive bag of yarn that I turned into some squares...

(There were more squares I made but these were the highlights ;-)- quite a few of the patterns are from the AMAZING Debi-Y's blog )

Thank you Edwina!  She donated some more yarn to me today-I am really grateful to you, it will be very useful-especially now that it's almost time to make blankets with all the lovely squares!

I would like to tell you all how touched I am by the support you've shown.  This is a fantastic cause and so worthwhile-each donation is going to make such a difference to families going through the worst time of their life.  So far, we have over 300 squares and eleven blankets-this is amazing and more than I could have hoped for!  Each of you prove beyond doubt that people care, that there is good in the world and you are all so inspiring.  Thank you. xxx

There's only a few days left before the deadline (end of May)-don't worry if you haven't sent in your squares/blankets yet, I'll still accept them throughout June, just please don't start making more after May-I'll need to get on top of the pile first!

Such a busy day for squares yesterday!

WOW!

I had a parcel yesterday morning from Chris over at the SIBOL ravelry group which has a variety of knitted and crocheted squares in lots of shades-she and her local friends, Sue and Jayne, have been hard at work for us.

17 of them!  Thank you so much!  They are wonderful.

On my way back from walking my daughter to the bus stop, I met my friend Lisa who gave me another 4 squares that she has been working on-her crochet confidence is growing and growing, well done darling!

When I got home from work, there was another parcel waiting for me-this one is from Joanne who I think is also part of the SIBOL ravelry group and she had made 30 squares!

Fantastic work!  Thank you Joanne, these are perfect for us, you really have been crocheting a storm!

And finally, just as I was taking photos of these wonderful squares, I heard something come through the door-someone posted these lovelies!

I have no idea who sent these-they were handposted so it must be someone I know/a friend of a friend!  I will find out and let you know...whoever you are, thank you!

There's not long left until the deadline-please get in touch asap if you have squares for us!

Here's what it's all about-

'Cwtch of Comfort' requests blankets to donate towards bereavement boxes for the '2Wish Upon A Star' charity that supports families suffering the loss of a child.  I have been inspired by the amazing SIBOL project to ask people to send me squares as many find the thought of making a whole blanket a tad overwhelming!  So with your help, I'm hoping to have a whole big pile of squares to work with by the end of this month.  Could you help?

Here's what I need you to do:

Make a square!
It can be either knitted or crocheted
It must be approx 6" (knitted can be a little bit smaller)
Pale pastel gender neutral colours or White only please
Acrylic yarn

Email me at amberspider@googlemail.com and I'll send you my address :-)

The deadline for squares is the end of May 2015-I'd really like to have lots and lots of squares to put together and any help would be so appreciated.  Even a share on your blog would be a massive help!

More squares from Claire!

Claire has been a fantastic support for this project and has made a blanket, lots of squares, and as well as coming to the crochet alongs, she has been sharing the cause through Facebook and to friends.  She popped by on Sunday with another lovely pile of squares-

There are 17 of them!  Even Artemis looks impressed...

We are planning ANOTHER crochet along next week-there are 10 days left to get squares done so please pick up your hooks or needles and help out!

Would you like to get involved?

More squares and another blanket!

Good morning!
It is wet and windy here in Wales today but I'm hoping the weather is bright wherever you are.

Over the weekend, some gorgeous squares arrived from London-these have been made by Ilona and she has done such a fantastic job with them

Thank you Ilona!  They are lovely and will be perfect for the blankets.
The pile of squares is steadily increasing-soon, we will be organising them into blankets, I can't wait!

Speaking of blankets, I've finally finished my second donation.  I wanted to do another heart theme so I decided to use a mixture of solid squares and traditional granny squares-this meant having to make squares only three rounds big so of course this means a LOT of squares!  I put it together as I went along to save my sanity (such as it is) but once the heart motif was done, it looked a bit too subtle, ie, hardly noticeable at all!  So I decided to go over the top edges in pale lemon with single crochet to create a ridged effect that would show it up better and then accentuated it with lemon squares in the corners.  Want to see?

I'm hoping to call it 'Comforting Cwtch' in honour of the charity.

It measures 35" by 45" so it is a toddler size.

Another fantastic evening with the ladies!

Yesterday was fabulous!  We had an amazing turnout for the crochet along-most of the ladies who came last time came again and we had some new faces as well!  We had a great time chatting away, talking about the cause, swapping crafting stories and it's been wonderful for me to make friends of a like mind :-D

Two ladies have made a blanket each already!  Bonnie has made this gorgeous piece in a lovely chunky yarn.

Claire has made this fantastic blanket-it is her very first one!  She's done a brilliant job with it :-)  Well done sweetie!

These two gorgeous squares were sent in all the way from the Netherlands by Fiona from the SIBOL ravelry group-thank you darling, they are wonderful!

By the end of the evening I brought home a lovely bundle of squares :-)

Great work ladies!

This morning, I bumped into Lisa-she came to the last crochet along but was working last night so she handed me these lovely three squares today!  Great work Lisa!

This is the pile so far-

143 so far!

The first is from another Liz :-D  This lovely lady has made two beautiful square motifs that are perfect for one of the blankets I have in mind

Thank you very much Liz!

The second was sent by Jayne-there is a wonderful selection of squares here, all of them will be very useful for the blankets :-D

Thank you so much Jayne!

Forever in my Heart Blanket

This is the first blanket I have made for the 'Cwtch of Comfort'-it's based on my 'Four Hearts' design and is made from pure white acrylic yarn.  I tried to do something a bit different and create a diamond shape around the heart but as I crocheted it, I discovered it looked a bit like a big heart forming around the smaller one-so I continued that theme as it's perfect for this cause.

Squares are arriving!

Hello everyone!

I'm delighted to show you the first square to arrive through the post.  It has come all the way from Belgium and was made by Martine (theemuts on Ravelry).

Isn't it lovely?  Thank you so much Martine-it is perfect and will look fantastic in a blanket for this cause.

Yesterday was a big day for squares-I had a knock on the door from the lovely Claire who had made another TEN squares for the project!  She has been very busy and I can't wait to use her squares-thankyou darling, they will look wonderful xxx

Would you like to know what I need all these squares for?  All the info is on this post here-I'm supporting 'Cwtch of Comfort' by requesting squares to make into blankets for this heartfelt cause.  If you'd like to join in, please get in touch!
